Give A Blog A Good Name and Publish It

Filed under: Blogging — Tags: — Raja @ 9:51 PM

Are you an Indian and want to start blogging? Do you want to write about everything in general and nothing in particular? Do you think you have a lot of original ideas waiting to be penned (typed) down for the betterment of the world (or whatever)? Is the only problem you are facing now is a suitable title of your blog?

If your answer to all the questions above is ‘yes’, look no further. You have come to the right place, and, add I might, at the right time (a few hours earlier, and you wouldn’t see this light at the near-end of the blogging tunnel. A few days later, and you woudn’t be able to find this post from under a pile of other enlightening posts). This post will take you through the steps of choosing the most suitable title for your blog. Remember, this post is about choosing blog titles. If you are struggling with blog post titles, this flight is not for you.

[If your answer to any of the questions above is ‘no’, go create a new blog.]

Ok, let’s get on to the business. Remember, choosing the most suitable title of your blog is as easy as 1-2-3-4. So, follow these four easy steps. If at the end of this exercise you are still not satisfied with the name, just take a virtual refund of the money you’d otherwise give me.

Step One

The name of a blog should preferably have two parts. 83% of Indian bloggers have two-part blog names. A single word will be lost in a 50-strong blogroll with 49 names containing two words. More than two words in a name, and people will call you a chatterbox. The following is a list of most popular first parts as can be obtained from IndiBlogger, BlogAdda etc directories. The most common blog name is Random Thoughts, floowed closely by AnyName’s Musings.

Choose the first part of your blog name from among these words:

Simple (or Simply)
YourName (or, YourName’s)

Step Two

Now that you have successfully selected the first part of the name, it’s time to play a little matching game to choose the second part. Remember that not all of the words below may match with your chosen first part of the name. But, go ahead, choose anything. No one really cares.

Choose the second part of your blog name from among these words:

(the last two fall into an exclusive category, of course)

Step Three

Either celebrate with your friends ’cause you may already have found THE name,
or go back to step one and try another word,
or try doctoring some movie/novel names (some great real examples are: Musings of an Insane Mind, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Main aur Meri Tanhaai, I Me Myself)

Step Four

If the first three steps fail, the name of your blog is . Informed . Opinions .
Yeah, go ahead and name it that way. Most people will not disagree with whatever you write since you have that ‘informed’ part in the name.

Happy Blogging 🙂

  1. Nice post and we both think uncannily alike. It is almost shocking…

I posted this algorithm last month, but you had no way of knowing that of course, because I never linked it anywhere or publicized. Likewise, I had no inkling that you were writing on something similar.

    So conclusion? God exists.

    • Yes, that’s a solid proof of god. but, my complaint is, even your unpublished maal is more subtle and polished than my published one 😦

      • I don’t think so. Mine is for longer blog-names (and based on one very famous blog which a lot of people copy), but the reason I never published is because I couldn’t think of anything to write to go along with it. So it just an uploaded file that I’ll probably never use for anything.

    • Thanks ……… and I’m sorry that I didn’t notice your blogname. I found two other blogs with the same name as your’s and some others that are pretty similar. It was an innocent mistake. I’v removed ‘Saying’ from the list. 🙂
