Snowy Evening

Filed under: Sojourn — Tags: — Raja @ 7:37 PM

I was reading some of Neruda’s poems translated in English and stumbled upon En Mi Cielo Al Crepúsculo. And it sounded familiar. Not only ‘coz it gave my feelings the words I needed, but ‘coz I had read/heard it in my own language, Bangla!
Neruda had written En Mi Cielo Al Crepúsculo without any mention of its being a translation of Tagore’s “tumi sandhar meghomaala”. When people found similarities between these two poems, Neruda then had acknowledged that he was influenced by Tagore (“This poem is a paraphrase of the 30th poem of Geetanjali by Rabindranath Tagore”).

You are the clouds of a twilight sky
You are my cherished worship
You are mine
You are mine
I’ve created you with my imagination, my love
The only one in my boundless skies

I’ve dyed your feet with the red of my heart
You rule my evening dreams
You rule the life of my life
You are mine
You are mine and but mine alone
You are the only truth in my life and everything beyond that

(Tagore had written it without knowing that this would match my feelings for you on some snowy evening! This is not an exact translation of Tagore’s/Neruda’s poem. Just a few lines that portray how hopelessly, insanely and irrevocably in love I am with you)

It’s like, I <>have<> lost in loveThanks for your comment 🙂@Dee:it depends on which translation u get. u may get one with lotsa flowery words and word-by-word translation. they stink. also, knowing the original helps. so call me for a rough translation of the original version first :-p@Kanu:I don’t know how much emotional I’m allowed to get here :-p. Set the rules clearly first :-p@Kosha:yeah, she ditched me. and the addicted moron that I am, still have the same love for her 😥@Megs: Thank you 🙂
